The 5-foot-9 guard was joined on the AP's first team by Danielle Dawson of Menchville, Kate Von Holle of Group AAA champion James Robinson, Waynetta Veney of Hampton and Katie Tracy of James River-Midlothian.
The only Timesland player selected by a panel of state sportswriters was Cave Spring senior Aimee Beightol, who was a second-team selection.
The coach of the year is Dwight Trimmer, who guided Robinson to the state title with a victory over heavily favored Madison, which had defeated Robinson twice during the regular season.
Smrcka-Duffy, a second-team All-Group AAA pick as a sophomore, averaged 32 points this season to lead the Northern Region in scoring. Dawson, a 5-8 senior, averaged 17.6 points and nine assists for the Monarchs, who won the Peninsula District regular-season and tournament titles. Tracy, the lone sophomore on this year's first team, averaged 22 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, seven steals and less than one turnover. The 5-4 guard led James River, a new school with no senior class, to the Group AAA quarterfinal round and was named the Richmond Times-Dispatch's player of the year. to help Hampton reach a Group AAA semifinal and finish with a 24-6 mark. She scored 1,066 points in her career despite missing more than half her junior season after transferring. Robinson's Von Holle, a 5-10 junior, averaged 15.1 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
The second team is Beightol, Ann Marie Bowdoin of Kellam, Misty Coleback of Salem-Virginia Beach, Chalois Lias of Menchville and Sylita Thomas of Petersburg.
