MAKEOVER FIT FOR A KING

His eyes were shielded by dark glasses, and the sideburns of his thick black hair came almost to his jawline. The belt on the caped jumpsuit was thick and covered with jewels. The trademark scarf hung around his neck.

Could it be? Was that really The King on ``Jenny Jones'' last Tuesday? Breathe a siiiigh of relief - it wasn't another Elvis sighting. It was Mike Sheets of Dublin, Va., made over to look like his idol.

Sheets called the show after hearing Jones' request for people wanting makeovers to look like their favorite celebrities.

Sheets, a lifelong Elvis fan, was flown to Chicago for the transformation. His hair was dyed black and styled by Oprah's hairdresser, his beard shaved, and his jeans and Elvis T-shirt exchanged for ``the jumpsuit.'' He wore his own Elvis pinky ring and sunglasses (bought at Graceland, where he admitted to touching everything, despite posted signs).

The hip-shaking needed a little greasing, and a professional impersonator advised him to ``lay off the donuts a little'' (hey, don't be cruel). But Sheets got a standing ovation anyway when he appeared on stage, striking a classic Presley pose.

The metamorphosis was not total, though. When Sheets came out in his new persona, what should have been blue suede shoes were his own blue tennis shoes. Oops!
