Police gave this account of what happened: At about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, two men argued inside Hair Is at 2729 Melrose Ave. N.W. One of the men pulled a Tech-9 firearm from his belt, placed a round in the chamber and fired, police said.
The bullet hit a wooden stool. The man fled on foot.
A Roanoke detective attempted to arrest the man after seeing him in a cab a short time later. But an unidentified woman left a nearby dry cleaners, grabbed the detective from behind and placed herself between the detective and the man. The man fled on Cove Road.
A man, later identified as Brown, was located on Swarthmore Avenue after a resident saw him lying behind a house. The man ran from police and was arrested on Cove Road a short while later.
