BENNETT, Ruth C., 74, of Roanoke, formerly of Merrick, N.Y., died Friday, April 7, 1995, at her home after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Bennett, Roanoke; daughter, Deborah Bennett, Brookhaven, N.Y.; sister, Alma Johnson, Roanoke. A prayer service will be held at Oakey's South Chapel, 6 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Kenneth Stofft officiating. Interment will be in St. Charle's Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's South Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.
BOLT, Walter Roy, 88, of Roanoke, died Friday, April 7, 1995 in Friendship Manor Nursing Home. He was formerly working at the local furniture factories for many years. Mr. Bolt was preceded in death by his wife, Lida Ferrell Bolt. Survivors include one sister, Hazel Miller, Roanoke; sister-in-law and her husband, Corbette and Samuel D. Brammer, Roanoke. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Monday, April 10, 1995, at 12 noon, from the Sherwood Memorial Park, with the Rev. Philip N. Hunsicker officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Lotz Vinton Chapel.
CANNADAY, Raymond K., 71, of Christiansburg, died Friday night, April 7, 1995, in the Montgomery Regional Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Frances R. Cannaday; two daughters, Janet Calhoun, Christiansburg, Beverly Duncan, Elliston; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alverta Staples, Doris Baker, both of Christiansburg, Annabelle Radford, Buchanan; one brother, Thomas Cannaday of Florida; and many friends. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday from the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren, conducted by pastor Donald Peters, with burial in Sunset Cemetery. CRAIG, Frank Wallace, 80, of 1131 Roundtree Drive, Bedford, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 1995 in a Bedford County Nursing Home. He was born in Tunnelton, West Virginia on November 27, 1914, a son of the late Thomas Edward Craig and Henrietta Jane Rhodes. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Mabel Howell Craig. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He is survived by his present wife, Mildres S. Craig; two daughters, Ethel M. Wyatt and Mary E. Eckley both of Bedford; three brothers, James Everet Craig and Berness R. Craig, Kingwood, W.Va., Harding Glen Craig, California; two sisters, Lucille Moore, Morgantown, W.Va., Eva Wildman, Anaheim, Calif., three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, April 9, 1995 at 7 p.m. from Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford by Rev. Philip Hunsicker. Mr. Craig will be taken to Kingwood, W.Va. where a viewing will be held on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Browning Funeral Home and a funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 11, 1995 at 2 p.m. from Bronwing Funeral Home by Rev. Harold O. McGinnis with interment in the Rhodes Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Updike Funeral Home on Saturday after the service until 9 p.m. and at other times at the homes of Ethel M. HOWELL, Hugh Lee, (``Scrubby""), 47, of Route 2, Moneta, passed away Friday, April 7, 1995. He was born in Bedford County on June 26, 1947, a son of the late Hugh Ray Howell and Eula Bowyer Howell, who survives. He was a supervisor for Rubatex Corporation, a Vietnam veteran and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Tracy L. Howell, Bedford; and two sisters, Kay H. Dawson, Bedford and Fay H. Nichols, Coleman Falls. A graveside service will be conducted Monday, April 10, 1995, at 2 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery by the Rev. KING, Lewis Huston Sr., 73, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, April 7, 1995 at his home. He was a member of Rainbow Forest Baptist Church and he was also a member of the Lost Chord Club of Roanoke and was a driver for Pony Express of Roanoke. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Lois Wiseman King; his son and daughter-in-law, Lewis (``Buddy"") and Dreama King, Blue Ridge; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Paul (``Joe"") Gray, Doris Mays and the late Larry Mays, Patsy and Roger Ingle, all of Roanoke; ten grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; five great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Rosebud Wiseman, Roanoke; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Nancy King, Troutville, Kent and Betty King, Roanoke; a sister and brother-in-law, Enith and Fletcher Altice, Roanoke; a special friend, Charlie Johnson , Roanoke; and a number of nieces and nephews. LYNCH, Herbert W., (``Red""), 72, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, April 8, 1995 in a Roanoke hospital. Mr. Lynch attended Vinton Wesleyan Church. He was a WW II veteran, and was retired from the U.S. Merchant Marines with 33 years of service and was also retired from Dover Elevator Co. Surviving are a sister, Audrey L. Dearing, Vinton; a sister and brother-in-law, Clementine L. and Sam C. Cole, Salem; a brother, David M. Lynch, Roanoke; his ex-wife and best friend, Beulah M. Lynch, Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Alyene Lynch, Roanoke, Ruth Lynch, Dumfries; and several loving nieces and nephews. MELTON, Joel Marshall, 72, of 205 Stuart St., Dublin, died Saturday morning, April 8, 1995, in Radford Community Hospital. Born April 13, 1922 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late James Madison and Laura Hurst Melton. Mr. Melton was the retired co-owner, for 35 years, of Melton-Marshall Oil Co. of Dublin and was a long-time member of Dublin United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Howe Melton; one daughter, Betty M. Dalton, Dublin; and one grandson, Ray Dalton III, Dublin. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday from Thomas M.
