The week of April 16-22 is National Organ and Tissue Awareness Week, honoring people who have donated organs and bringing attention to the continued need for donor organs.

More than 37,000 Americans are waiting for a donor heart, kidney, liver or pancreas. Because of donor organ shortages, one out of four potential organ recipients will die before receiving an organ. More than 700 of the people waiting are children.
