DRUG, GUN CHARGES MADE AGAINST NEW RIVER MAN|

A 21-year-old New River man is being held without bond in Radford City Jail following his arrest early Friday on drug and firearm charges.

Deputy Chief Jonny Butler said Malcolm Courtney Lewis was charged with having a firearm while possessing a controlled substance.

Police said they spotted Lewis - who was already wanted in Pulaski County - at a convenience store on Tyler Avenue. After stopping Lewis, police said they found what they believed to be crack cocaine and a .410 pistol, Butler said.

The .410 is capable of firing either shotgun shells or solid slugs. Butler described it as "very effective at close range."
