ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Spring has revived the region's building business. Building offices in Roanoke, Roanoke County and Salem reported issuing in March 531 permits for construction worth $8,587,476. That compares with 267 permits in February, a gain of 98.8 percent, and 438 a year earlier, an increase of 21.2 percent.

More than half of last month's permit value, $4.3 million, was written in Roanoke County. Roanoke reported $2.8 million and Salem $1.4 million.
