Monday, April 17 - "Ozone Day," a presentation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will take place on the prairie between Payne Hall and Lee Hall. Information is available from Chad Duty at 232-1610.
Tuesday, April 18 - Project Learning Tree educational program for children in elementary and secondary schools will be previewed from 3 to 5 p.m. in Squires Student Center's Brush Mountain Room. The program offers lessons and activities to develop awareness of the elements of forest ecology with a focus on hands-on activities and group discussion. Tuesday's program is a preview which will lead to a full training and certification program in early fall. Registration requested by calling Kirsten Reynolds, 639-6101.
Wednesday, April 19 - Paul Ewing, editor of the Rainforest Alliance's newsletter, "The Canopy," will speak at 7 p.m. in Squires Student Center's Colonial Hall. His talk will focus on the fight to protect tropical rain forests. For information, call Karl Martin at 961-5318.
Thursday, April 20 - Panel discussion on "The Contract with America and the Environment," 7 to 9 p.m., in room 100 of the Johnston Student Center. Carl Zipper, a researcher in crop soil and environmental science, and Nicolaus Tideman, associate department head of economics, will participate. Friday, April 21 - Bike ride to raise awareness of bicycle riders and cycling issues runs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Cyclists should meet at the plaza above Memorial Chapel for a leisurely ride around the drillfield and downtown Blacksburg. For more information, call Karl Martin at 961-5318.
Saturday, April 22 - Broomin' and Bloomin' and EarthFest, Montgomery County's annual cleanup and environmental awareness event, runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers who want to participate in the cleanup should meet in the commuter parking lot behind Derring Hall. At 1 p.m., volunteers will have a picnic. EarthFest is an opportunity for local businesses to publicize themselves to environmentally concerned customers.
