MAN GUILTY IN CHILD ABUSE

A Bedford County man pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony charge of abusing and neglecting his infant daughter. His wife pleaded guilty to similar charges last week.

No sentencing date has been set for Michael and Anita Burgess, who were charged in connection with their daughter Amber's broken leg.

The child was 2 months old last August when she was taken to an emergency room with a fractured femur. X-rays showed that Amber had other fractures in various stages of healing.

A doctor who testified at a pre-trial hearing said it would have taken the force of a 30-foot fall to break the bone, which was the size of a chicken's leg bone. Amber is in foster care. Her parents have been denied visitation rights.
