MAROONS DOWN R-MC

Jeff Jones and Keith Wempe each scored four goals as Roanoke cruised past Randolph-Macon 20-8 Wednesday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's lacrosse game in Ashland.

J.J. Blatt added three goals and two assists and Kevin Tersolo had two goals and one assist for the fifth-ranked Maroons, who have won a school-record eight consecutive games. Roanoke (11-2 overall, 5-0 ODAC) also broke the school record for victories in a regular season.

Goalie Chris Gordon made 14 saves for the Maroons, who outshot the Yellow Jackets 53-31. Randolph Macon dropped to 4-7, 0-3.

In other college news:

Senior Andy Dutton scored his fourth goal with 9:14 remaining in the game to lift Washington and Lee to a 13-12 victory over St. Mary's in a non-conference men's lacrosse game in St. Mary's City, Md.

The sixth-ranked (8-2) Generals handed the Seahawks (7-1) their first loss.

Due to a Metro Conference error, UNC Charlotte was incorrectly reported as finishing second in the conference's golf championship, which concluded Tuesday in Davidson, N.C. Virginia Tech and UNC Charlotte tied for second place at 904 and will split the 11 points, which apply toward the Metro All-Sports Trophy.
