GARLAND, Mamie Carter, 86, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, April 11, 1995. She was the widow of Howard C. Garland and was retired from the U.S. Government Printing Office. HOGAN, Buford Bryant, 64, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 1995, at his residence. He was born March 27, 1931 in Bedford County, a son of the late L.R. Hogan and Emma Wilson Hogan. He was a retired Carpenter, a member of the Moose Lodge #1897, and the American Legion. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served as Sergeant in the Headquarters Battery 89th Airbourne Field Artillery Battalion. He is survived by two daughters, Karen Hogan Bowyer, Moneta, Elaine Hogan Dean, Bedford; two sons, Ronald (Ronnie) A. Hogan, Ray D. Hogan, both of Bedford; a brother, Clyde Hogan, Irving, Texas; nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, April 14, from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, by the Rev. LEE, Thomas Carter, of 712 Cassell Lane, Roanoke, died Wednesday, April 12, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Mary Pennock Cooksey Lee; three daughters, Shannon Lee, White Plains, N.Y., Molly Rutledge, Copperhill, Va. and Jenny Lee, Roanoke; two sons, Tom Lee, Richmond, Gordon Lee, Roanoke; five grandchildren, Bobby Hagan, Sarah Hagan, Carter White, Chris Lee and Elizabeth Lee; one sister, Virginia Lee Starkey; four nieces and four nephews. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and the Washington and Lee University, was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Treasurer, sang in the church choir for 53 years and pitched for the Church Softball Team. He was also a past president of the Roanoke Kiwanis Club and avid tennis player and a New York Yan kees fan. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Music Program at Second Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 14, 1995, at Second Presbyterian Church with Dr. William R. Klein and Dr. Taylor Todd officiating. MATTOX, Ruth Clarke French, 94, of 2601 Valley View Ave., Bluefield, W. Va., died Wednesday, April 12, 1995 in a Bluefield Hospital. Born in Bluefield, she was the daughter of the late James Williams French and Mary Elizabeth Evans French. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bluefield, where she was the longest continuous member. She served as the Church Hostess for 55 years, retiring in 1987. The Fellowship Hall was named after her in her honor. She began the Lenten Luncheons in 1960 which are still being served today. She had a honorary membership of the Presbyterian Women. She was a supervisor of the Dining Hall at Camp Ivy from 1960-1970 and a supervisor of the Dining Hall for the YMCA-YWCA. She was a member of the UDC Chapter #172 and the DAR, John Chapman Chapter for 49 years. She was honorary President of the W. Va. Division of the UDC. She was preceded in death by her husband, L. D. (""Doug"") Mattox, one son, L. D. (""Buddy"") Mattox, one sister, Ellen Elizabeth French Mays, and one brother, David Williams French. Survivors include, daughter-in-law, Mrs. Opal Lester Mattox, with whom she made her home with; grandchildren, James Douglas Mattox Sr. of Bluefield, W.Va., David Alexander Mattox Sr. of Christiansburg, Mrs. Mike (Carolyn Ann) Mattox Ruble of Bluefield, Va., and Mrs. Pete (Debbie Ruth) Mattox Romano of Bluefield, W.Va.; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and one nephew. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church in Bluefield with Dr. W. D. Hasty Jr. and Dr. Benjamin S. Booth officiating. MOORE, Charlie Lee, 60, of Natural Bridge Station, died Wednesday, April 12, 1995, at Shenandoah Valley Health Care Facility, Buena Vista. Born in Rockbridge Co., July 1, 1934, he was the son of the late Jessie James and Mary Pheobe Campbell Moore. Mr. Moore was a retired fixer for Burlington Industries.
