It features a cast of 18 including Hana Kline, Kenny Morris and Michael Tolaydo, all three of whom are Barter alumni, and Michael Broughton, Mel Duane Gionson, Joel Kramer, Melissa Maxwell and Randolph Scott.
The events leading up to the crucifixion and resurrection are intertwined with a story about an artist struggling with questions of faith, and paintings are used to set various scenes in the play.
It is directed by Richard Rose, Barter's artistic director, and written by Joseph Kline. Both men consulted with an interdenominational pastoral advisory committee during development of the play.
Rose said that Kline "has remained true, theologically, to the passion of Jesus which is performed, in our production, by a group of Renaissance artists. Whatever you believe, you will be caught up in both the story of Luigi - his struggles, his humor, his love for his wife - and the drama and power of the Easter story."
Scenic design is by Daniel Ettinger, with costumes by Amanda Aldrige, lighting by David Friedl and sound by Scott Koenig. Hazel Youngs is production stage manager.
"One of the most exciting aspects of the production has been the design," Rose said. "We've worked hard over the last couple of seasons to set high standards for every aspect of the productions at Barter. 'On the Third Day' is a strong opening, a great indicator of what we want to accomplish in the season ahead."
It is being performed evenings Wednesday through Saturday and afternoons Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The Wednesday evening performance has been added to the original performance schedule.
