5-RUN 9TH LIFTS SALEM OVER KINSTON

The Salem Avalanche erupted for five runs in the ninth inning Thursday to beat the Kinston Indians 6-2 in a Carolina League baseball game.

The victory gave Salem (5-2) a three-game series sweep.

John Giudice ignited the uprising with a triple off Kinston starter and loser Kris Hanson. Nate Holdren's RBI single plated Guidice, tying the score at 2.

Brian Culp's double scored Holdren to give Salem a 3-2 lead. After Mike Higgins' RBI single made it 4-2, Salem picked up some insurance on Edgard Velasquez's two-run double that made it 6-2.
