GROWING LISTENER-SUPPORTED CHRISTIAN NETWORK RAISING FUNDS

The Christian contemporary PARfm radio network is growing again, just in time for its spring fund-raising event. This week, WKNV (810 AM) in Dublin ``officially'' began airing the PARfm program lineup that originates from the network's Blacksburg studios.

The station - with transmitter and tower just off Old Highway 11 near the Pulaski Correctional Unit at Morgan's Cut - is the latest in the noncommercial group, which sponsors its ``SPRING SHARATHON 95'' Friday and April 22. The network's general manager, George McNerlin, said the listener-supported radio group hopes to get $35,000 in one-time support and another $20,000 in pledges. Listeners can call 951-9791, (800) 627-9747 or 387-3131.

PARfm - Positive Alternative Radio - also carries the Christian country music show ``Positive Country,'' Saturdays, 6 a.m.-noon, and the Christian rock ``Life Force,'' Saturdays, 8 p.m.-1 a.m. ``Praise and Worship'' is Sundays, 6 a.m.-noon.

The network's sixth station, WPIB (90.9 FM) in Bluefield, W.Va., is scheduled to be on the air this month, McNerlin said, possibly in time for the fund-raising event. Other PARfm outlets are WPIN (91.5 FM/102.5 FM) in Dublin; WPIR (91.3 FM), Roanoke; WPIM (90.5 FM), Martinsville; and WODY (1160 AM), Martinsville.

Eagle Country 107 WPSK (107.1 FM) has been named a winner of a National Association of Broadcasters CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD. WPSK was one of 10 stations from across the country to get the award, which recognizes radio stations' efforts to improve the quality of life in their communities. The station was picked from 45 finalists. General Manager Dave Roederer accepted the award Tuesday during the NAB's annual convention in Las Vegas.
