NEW RIVER VALLEY CELEBRATES EASTER, PASSOVER|

The EASTER STORY revisited, adapted from the Williams translation of John 20:11-18:

But Mary stood just outside the tomb and kept weeping. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?'' Because she supposed it was the gardener, she said to Him, "If it was you, sir, who carried Him away, tell me where you put Him, and I will remove Him." Jesus said to her, "Mary!'' At once she turned and said to Him in Hebrew, "Rabboni!'' which means Teacher. Mary of Magdala went and announced to the disciples that she had seen the Lord.

- From "The New Testament in the Language of the People," by Charles B Williams.

A list of Easter services and activities appeared in Friday's Current.

PASSOVER, the week-long celebration of the deliverance of the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt, described in Exodus, began Friday at sundown.

The Blacksburg Jewish Community Center, Roanoke and Church Streets, offers a Seder this evening. The Seder - a ceremonial family meal augmented by much symbolism - is at the center of Passover and provides a festive introduction to a full week of sacred observances.
