WEEKEND ACTIVITIES KICK OFF PROJECT

Friday

6 p.m.: Black Tie/Dark Suit banquet featuring Joe Kennedy and the University Jazz Orchestra. Welcome by Virginia Tech President Paul Torgersen. Owens Hall, Virginia Tech.

Saturday

8 a.m.-noon: Keynote address by Margaret Washington Clifford, granddaughter of Booker T. Washington. Colonial Hall, Squires Student Center.

Panel sessions on: "Linking with Africa," "Students at Risk in Higher Education," "Oral Histories," "Racism and Affirmative Action," "African American and Sport," and other sessions on "Encouraging African American Enterprise," and "The Role of the Black Church in the Fight for Freedom."

After lunch, hourly shuttle buses will travel to the institute.

4-6 p.m.: Reception with acknowledgement of pledges and a performance by Ujima African American Dance Theatre. Commonwealth Ballroom, Squires Student Center.

Friday's banquet and entertainment cost $50 for one person, or $85 for couples. Saturday's sessions are $35 per registrant or $30 per person for parties of two or more.
