ABBOTT, Allen Ray, 83, of 1556 Oakwood Street, Bedford, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 1995, in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford County on October 7, 1911, a son of the late Charles J. Abbott and Lena Johnson Abbott. His wife was the late Helen Ruth Witt Abbott. He was a retired supervisor for Elks National Home, a member of Bedford Baptist Church, a member of B.P.O.E. and had served in the National Guard. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Donna M. Abbott, Roanoke; two daughters and son-in-law, Virginia A. and Bill Coleman, Midlothian, and Patsy A. and Gene Simmons, Memphis, Tenn; two granddaughters, Kensie and Sarah Abbott, Midlothian; a grandson, Brian Abbott, Roanoke; three sisters, Thelma Fulton, Bedford, Mignon Witt, Salem and Helen Turner, Lynchburg. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 17, 1995, at 2 p.m. from Updike Funeral Ch apel, Bedford, by the Rev. Jim Carroll with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

EGER, Douglas Munn, 70, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 15, 1995. Mr. Eger was born in Walton, N.Y., and later lived in Buena Vista where he graduated from Parry-McCluer High School in 1941. He graduated from V.P.I in 1947 and received a law degree from Washington & Lee University in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Eger retired as an Assistant Director of Claims for Metro Transit System (WMATA), Washington, D.C. Surviving is his wife, Lista G. Winger-Eger; his children, James D. Eger, Dallas, Texas, Nancy Eger Anderson, Littleton, Colo.; his brother, Donald B. Eger, Harrisonburg; his stepchildren, David M. Winger, Fredericksburg, Holly G. Winger, Fayettville, Ark., Heather W. Galligan, Mission Viejo, Calif.; also four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Lotz Roanoke Chapel noon Tuesday, April 18, 1995. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The fami ly will receive friends at Lotz Roanoke Chapel, 1001 Franklin Rd. SW, Roanoke, Va., one hour prior to service.

FIX, Thomas Eugene, 91, of Lexington, died Friday, April 14, 1995, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Lexington. Born January 12, 1904, in Rockbridge Co., he was the son of the late John Baxter and Margaret Brown Beatty Fix. Mr. Fix was a member of the Lauderdale A.R.P. Church and was a retired welder for Columbia Gas. Co. with over 35 years service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Alberta Fix, and a brother, John Baxter (""Bud"") Fix. Surviving are one daughter, Juanita B. Kidwell, Gaithersburg, Md.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 17, 1995, at 11 a.m. from the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Zeb Carson Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Harrison Funeral Home.

FRANCISCO, Patricia L., 51, of Salem, passed away Friday, April 14, 1995. She is survived by her husband, James R. Francisco; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Douglas L. Wertz of Salem; son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Lee Ann Francisco of Salem; sisters, Barbara L. Robertson of Roanoke, Mary Kemper of Texas; two grandsons, David Eli Francisco and Michael Douglas Wertz. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Monday, April 17, 1995, at Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Tom Stocks officiating. Interment will be in Smith Cemetery. HART, Robert Walter Jr., 78, of Route 1, Rockbridge Baths, died Friday, April 14, 1995 at his residence. Mr. Hart was born June 16, 1916 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Robert W. Hart Sr. and Cora (Via) Hart. He was a member of the Bethesda Presbyterian Church, Rockbridge Baths. Mr. Hart retired as manager of the Amoco Service Center, Lexington. Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Moore) Hart; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. Hart III and Nellie M. Hart, Rockbridge Baths; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda H. Smith and Garland E. Smith, Madison; two sisters, Beatrice H. Minnick and Katherine H. Windham, Front Royal; three grandchildren, Kevin E. Smith, Madison, Kimberly S. Hart, Rich mond, Berta L. Warren, Verona; a great-grandchild, Maegan A. Smith, Madison; a number of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Clarence Tolley, Lexington. Memorial services will be conducted today, Sunday, April 16, 1995 at 2 p.m. in the Williams Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. David A. Dickerson officiation. Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Rockbridge Area Hospice or the Fairfield First Aid Crew. HENDRICK, Gilbert H., 99, of Roanoke, born November 28, 1895, died Saturday, April 15, 1995. He was a son of the late Thomas H. and Margaret Frances Callaham Hendrick of Campbell County. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a retired mechanic from Wright Motor Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Drabble Hendrick. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, William G. (""Jack"") and Marie Hurley Hendrick, Austin, Texas; two grandchildren, William L. (""Bill"") Hendrick, Round Rock, Texas, Cynthia Hendrick Garst, Charlotte, N.C.; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia H. Davis, Roanoke County, Geneva H. Bibb, Vinton; two brothers, T. Mermon Hendrick, Roanoke, Paul E. Hendrick, San Diego, Calif. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, April 17, 1995, at Sherwood Memorial Park with the Rev. John D. HOLT, Virgie Ford, 75, of Blacksburg, died Friday, April 14, 1995, at Radford Community Hospital. Mrs. Holt was born at Grassy Cove, Tenn., on December 26, 1919, a daughter of the late Edward Earl Ford Sr. and Lola Andrews Ford. She received a B.S. Degree from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute and was a retired school teacher. She was active for many years in the Faculty Women's Club and the Trillium Garden Club. She is survived by her husband, Perry Cecil Holt; daughter, Susan E. H. West, Madison, Wis.; granddaughter, Emily A. West, Charlottesville; grandson, James L. W. West IV, Madison, Wis.; great-grandson, Bradley Treman Viles, Charlottesville; two sisters, Blanche Hatler, Crossville, Tenn. and Emma Gore, Caldwell, N.J.; brother, E. E. Ford Jr., Crossville, Tenn. A memorial service will be held 12 noon, Monday, April 17, 1995, on the Virginia Tech Campus at the War Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Al Payne officiating. HUTCHINSON, Eloise, 79, of Pearisburg, died Wednesday, April 12, 1995, in Virginia Beach. Born in Giles County, she was a daughter of the late, Arthur and Annie Kate Hutchinson. She is survived by her sister, Beulah Hutchinson of Virginia Beach; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 17, 1995, at 1 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. There will be no public visitation prior to the services.

LAPRAD, Serrelda Mae, 85, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 15, 1995. Mrs. Laprad was preceded in death by a son, James Laprad and a grandson, Larry ``Buck"" Laprad. McALEXANDER, Sarah Branscome, 91, of Laurel Fork, passed away Saturday, April 15, 1995 at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax, Va. Born April 24, 1903 in Carroll County, the daughter of the late Perry Branscome and Mary Ruth Dickerson Branscome. Survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Rogene and Delmon Nester of Laurel Fork; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Willadean McAlexander of Meadows of Dan, Va., Elmo and Eunafaye McAlexander of Laurel Fork; one sister-in-law, Emma Branscome of Roanoke; six grandchildren, David Nester, Sue Perigen, Patsy Harrell, Debra Nester, Benton McAlexander, Janice McAlexander; five great-grandchildren; special friends, Frances Poteot and Lucille Spangler. She was the widow of the late Dennis Lee McAlexander. Funeral services 11 a.m. Monday, April 17, 1995 with the Elder Carbin Vass and Elder Joe H. McGrady officiating. McNAMARA, Beatrice Baldwin, of Roanoke, formerly of Long Island, N.Y. and Lakeland, Fla., died April 15, 1995 at the age of 91. Mrs. McNamara was pre-deceased in January by her daughter, Alyce Jayne Hiler. She is survived by her son, Harry C. Jayne of Lakeland, Fla.; grandsons, H. C. Jayne III of Thomasville, Ga., Lawrence A. PRUETT, Blane Crawford, 82, of Salem, died Friday, April 14, 1995. Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his former wife, Lillie Hall Pruett. He was retired from Kroger Distribution Center. Born November 1, 1928 in Carroll County, he was the son of Elsa Lewis Richardson and the late Aaron F. Richardson. RIDGWAY, Agnes Bruning, 86, of Vinton, died Saturday, April 15, 1995, at a local hospital. She was retired from the Marriott Corporation and was the widow of Oscar M. Ridgway and a member of the Vinton Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Surviving are a son, John E. Ridgway, Troutville; daughters, Ruth R. Jones, Atlanta, Ga., Dorothy R. Domgaard, Sandy, Utah, Lucille R. Ladd; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Special thanks to Mary Johnson for all her loving care from Doris and Johnny.
