Park spokeswoman Betsy Reardon said the fight broke out shortly after 3 p.m. outside the Johnny's Burgers restaurant in the Candy Apple Grove section of the park. She said all five, described as young male adults, were ``either stabbed or slashed.''
Four of the victims were taken by ambulance to the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond, and the fifth was flown to MCV by helicopter.
Hospital spokesman Bill Lueck said three of the victims were in surgery Sunday evening, and two were being evaluated.
Hanover County Sheriff's Capt. J.W. Robertson said officers had descriptions of the suspects, but ``we don't have any names to go on.'' Robertson declined to say how many suspects were involved.
Robertson also declined to give a motive for the stabbings.
Identification of the injured was being withheld until their families can be notified, Robertson said.
The park was not closed after the stabbings.
