BAY CROAKERS COME BY THE TON

Saltwater fishermen can anticipate another good croaker season, according to the predictions of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission.

Tons of the fish are moving up the Chesapeake Bay, where there have been large commercial catches in recent weeks. At this point, the bay water remains a bit too cool for rod and reel catches, said Roy Insley, a commission spokesman.

The croaker season for sport fishermen reaches its peak in the late summer.
