HARRISONBURG - The Rockingham County Fairgrounds will be the site of the 1995 Virginia Beef Expo from Friday through Sunday. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services expects the event to draw visitors from along the East Coast.
The attraction will be a variety of family activities and the sale of purebred cattle from eight major breeds.
The 1995 Virginia Beef Cook-off will be held on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A beef-cooking school will be conducted earlier in the day. Steer shows and other junior events will be held Saturday. A trade show by 80 farm suppliers will be held Friday and Saturday.

Coal production drops for week
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Domestic coal production totaled 19.7 million tons during the week ending April 8, down 6 percent from the 21 million tons produced the previous week, the U.S. Department of Energy reported this week.
The U.S. coal industry produced 20.1 million tons in the same week last year, according to the department's Energy Information Administration.
Virginia mines produced 704,000 tons of coal during the week of April 8, down from 908,000 tons the previous week and from 732,000 tons a year earlier.
Domestic coal production so far this year is 295 million tons, 6 percent ahead of last year's production at this time.

First Union declares dividend
First Union Corp., Charlotte, N.C., parent of First Union National Bank of Virginia, on Tuesday declared a quarterly cash dividend of 46 cents per share for its common stock. The dividend will be paid June 15 to shareholders on May 31.

Yard equipment servicer opens
Yes, Roanoke Inc., a company whose name is an acronym for Yard Equipment Service, has opened at 3822 Shenandoah Ave. N.W. The owner is Jeffery J. Winslow, who once operated 309 First Street and other restaurants in downtown Roanoke.
The new business services lawn mowers and other yard equipment. Winslow said
Winslow first did this work in 1970 as manager of a lawn and garden department at W.T. Grant. He worked one season at H.M. Gleason's in Charlottesville.
