RICHARD PETTY HAS SURGERY FOR PROSTATE CANCER

Retired NASCAR great Richard Petty was listed in good condition Tuesday after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer in Greensboro, N.C.

The operation at The Moses H. Cone Regional Cancer Center lasted approximately two hours. Petty's urologist, Dr. Ronald L. Davis, said the procedure went without complication.

``I am pleased with the outcome of Mr. Petty's surgery,'' Davis said. ``At this time, there is no evidence that the cancer has spread to other parts of his body.''

Petty, 57, retired from racing in 1994 with career winnings of more than $7.7 million. He won 200 of the 1,185 NASCAR Winston Cup races he entered and won seven Winston Cup championships during his career.
