BOTETOURT STUDENTS PLACE AT GAMES

Three Botetourt County students competed in this year's Rainbow Games, held recently in Richmond. The games are open to children ages 7 to 21 who are physically or visually disabled.

Megan Weddle, a third-grader at Troutville Elementary, won two gold medals for the club and softball throws. She also received a silver medal in the 200-meter race, and a ribbon in the 60-meter race. Megan is the daughter of Steve and Page Weddle.

Botetourt Intermediate seventh-grader Donald Mayes, son of Don and Jenny Mayes, also earned two gold medals - one for the 200-meter race, and another for the shotput. Donald placed second in two categories, earning silver medals in the beginner's wheelchair slalom and the softball throw.

Paige Hodges, daughter of Lyn and Susan Hodges, won a gold medal for the softball throw, and a silver medal for the 60 meter race. The Colonial Elementary fifth-grader also earned two bronze medals in the 200-meter race and the long jump.

Chapter 1 basketball tourney winner named

The Roanoke Academy for Mathematics and Science Basketball club won the championship game of the Chapter 1 Gold Medal Tournament held recently in Roanoke.

RAMS competed against seven area basketball clubs, consisting of 9 and 10 year olds. RAMS went on to defeat the Wilmont Bulls in the championship game with a score of 43 to 38.

RAMS coach Harold V. Cannaday was honored with the 1994-95 Coach of the Year award. Cannaday developed the RAMS basketball club in 1989, and his team has won the citywide championship for the past three years.
