MUSEUM SETS PARTY FOR EARTH DAY

The Virginia Museum of Natural History at Virginia Tech will celebrate its 5th anniversary with a party for museum volunteers and members today, 5 to 7 p.m. Shay Garriock and the Brush Mountain Sand Sifters will provide music.

In observance of Earth Day, the museum will organize a New River cleanup project Saturday. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at the river just below the falls at McCoy. Garbage bags and gloves will be provided. To volunteer, call the museum at 231-3001.

Other Earth Day activities include a walking natural history tour, a tour of the Museum of Geological Sciences and a tour of the Massey Herbarium on the Virginia Tech campus.

Sunday, Llyn Sharp will lead a tour of the mammal, bird and insect collections in the main museum building at 428 North Main St., Blacksburg. Reservations are recommended for the 2 p.m. tour. For information, call 231-3001.
