TULANE AD NOT CANDIDATE FOR UVA JOB

Tulane athletic director Kevin White says he is not a candidate for the University of Virginia athletic director's job.

President John T. Casteen III is to appoint a replacement in May or June for Jim Copeland, who was Virginia's athletic director for seven years before resigning in December to take the same job at Southern Methodist.

The Daily Progress of Charlottesville reported Wednesday that White and four others are considered to be the top candidates to replace Copeland.

``I was contacted by Virginia and asked if I was interested in being a candidate, and I declined,'' White said Wednesday. ``They did ask if I would serve as a consultant in a search committee, which I did along with about 15 or 20 others.''

White said he was happy in his current position with Tulane. White came to Tulane in 1991 from Maine, where he was athletic director.

The Daily Progress of Charlottesville reported Arizona State athletic director Charles Harris and Idaho athletic director Pete Liske are the top candidates. Davidson athletic director Terry Holland, a former Virginia basketball coach, also is considered the favorite. White and Virginia associate athletic director Craig Littlepage were the other candidates mentioned in the report.
