Self allowed no hits, walked one and struck out 15 in a 10-0 Mountain Empire District victory over Bland in a game that was stopped after six innings. Shaffner supplied the offense with two doubles and a homer in four trips to knock in four runs and up his batting average to .588.
BYRON GATES, Christiansburg
The Blue Demons' third baseman cracked his sixth homer in 10 games to key a 7-5 victory over Graham. He finished with three hits in four at-bats. Through 11 games, he is hitting .548 with 17 RBI. In pitching, he's struck out 45 in 30 innings with a 2.08 earned run average.
PATRICK BAILEY, Narrows
Bailey fired a no-hitter in a 16-2 victory over Rocky Gap in a game that was stopped after five innings. Bailey struck out 11, walked three and gave up only two unearned runs as he picked up his first win of the season. On offense, he banged out three hits in four trips, scored three times and drove in four runs.
BRIAN LONG, Liberty
The senior first baseman has gone from getting floor burns while diving for basketballs to getting base hits for the Minutemen. He drilled four hits in four trips and knocked in two runs as Liberty stopped Rustburg 8-7.
BRIAN MAYS, BRIAN ALLEY, Field.-Collinsville
These two did a number in a 10-0 romp over Gretna. Mays pitched a no-hitter, struck out 10 and didn't give up a walk while drilling three hits in four at-bats to knock in two runs. Alley also had three hits in four trips with two RBI, a double and a triple.
ROBEY CALDWELL, Cave Spring
Caldwell struck out 16 in a four-hit 5-4 victory over Pulaski County to help the Knights avenge an early season Roanoke Valley District loss and gain a tie with Franklin County for the district lead going into Friday 's game between the Knights and Eagles.

STEVE CHERRY, Blacksburg
Cherry scored two goals as Blacksburg rolled past Group AAA Pulaski County 4-2. Cherry has six goals and six assists for the Indians, who are 6-0.
MATHEW BARNES, George Wythe
Barnes scored one goal and added an assist as the Group A Maroons beat Group AA Marion 2-1. He added two more goals and an assist in an 8-3 victory over Group AA Carroll County.

RUSSELL BOWLING, Giles
Bowling, who's only a sophomore, is off to a fast start with a 3-0 record. He hasn't lost a set and hasn't dropped more than one game in any set. He paced Giles (2-1) to a 6-3 victory over George Wythe as the Spartans ran their record to 2-1.
LAURA PRATT, Floyd County
Pratt, a third baseman, had three hits in three trips to raise her batting average to .667 and smacked her fourth home run in six games as the Buffaloes smashed Radford 21-2. Floyd County is unbeaten in six games with 14 homers, 142 runs scored and a .457 team batting average.

ANGIE SINK, James River
Sink, a junior third baseman, tripled and singled in four trips to knock in three runs as the Knights beat Group AA Lord Botetourt 12-7. For the year, she's hitting .604 with 31 RBI in 11 games.
ANDRA BEASLEY, Christiansburg
Beasley won the 100, 200, the triple jump and led off the winning 400-meter relay team as the Blue Demons scored 136 points, more than the combined total of Blacksburg, Carroll County and Pulaski County - 91. Beasley also finished second in the long jump and third in the shot put for 261/2 points.
BETHANY EIGEL, MAUREEN JACKSON,
Christiansburg
Eigel won the 400- and the 800-meter races that are not her speciality events and ran on the second place mile relay team. Jackson, a Group AA state class thrower, won the shot and discus. Together, they led the Blue Demons with 1091/2 point past Blacksburg (591/2), Pulaski County (57) and Carroll County (6).
