MONTGOMERY GOP SELECTS NEW LEADER

Montgomery County Republicans elected a new party chairman Saturday.

Dave Nutter, associate director of university relations at Virginia Tech, was selected to fill the remaining year of Pat Cupp's two-year term.

Cupp, a Blacksburg real estate broker, is a candidate for the state Senate seat held by Madison Marye, D-Shawsville.

Nutter was Montgomery County coordinator for Jim Miller's unsuccessful bid last year for the Republican nomination for the Senate seat held by Charles Robb. Oliver North won the nomination.

The county party also elected a new vice chairman, Tom DeBusk, to fill a vacancy and work with the other two vice chairmen.

The Republicans will hold a mass meeting May 20 to nominate candidates for the House of Delegates, Board of Supervisors, treasurer, commissioner of revenue, sheriff and commonwealth's attorney.
