FIRST LADY TO PUBLISH BOOK ON KIDS' NEEDS

Hillary Rodham Clinton is writing a book about the needs of youngsters and families, the White House said Saturday.

``It Takes a Village and Other Lessons Children Teach Us'' will be published this fall by Simon & Schuster, said Neel Lattimore, spokesman for Clinton.

``Drawing on her experiences as daughter, mother, public servant and longtime child advocate - and on her observations of children and families across the country and around the world - the first lady will reflect on the needs of children and the possibilities they suggest for rekindling a better quality of family and community life in today's fast-paced, fragmented world,'' said Victoria Meyer, Simon & Schuster's publicity director.

She said Clinton will get help from a professional writer.

The first lady will receive no advance for the book and her royalties will be donated to charity, Lattimore said.

Clinton, who has been involved with children's issues since her college days, returned earlier this month from a 12-day tour of south Asia, where she focused on women's and children's issues.
