LAWHORN GETS FIRST WIN AT FCS

Dudley Lawhorn grabbed the lead on the second lap and won the 75-lap Baker Brothers late-model feature race at Franklin County Speedway Saturday night.

It was the first win of the season for Lawhorn.

``This is a new car,'' said Lawhorn. ``It's taken us five races to get it sorted out. ... It all came together tonight.''

Bobby Radford brought his Chrysler Labaron in second place, followed by Jimmy Mullins and pole-sitter Steve Lynch. Lowe Smith was fifth.

Jay Perry sang the national anthem then climbed into his car and won the Pure Stock 25-lap race. Greg Tester was second and J.R. Lester was third.

Ricky Ferguson started in back of the Rookie Class and cruised to victory. David Duncan was second but was later disqualified. Ralph Dalton moved up to second and Chuck Floyd was third.

Mike Dudley won the Street Stock race, followed by Bill Bratton, Mike Elkins, Freddie Goff and Wayne Corprew.

Chris Hatchett won the Truck Race.

The night ended with some pyrotechnics as Tony Perdue's Chevrolet Caprice caught fire after the Any Car race, which was won by Tim Royal.

Perdue's car - which had flame painted on the side - completely burned before the Callaway Volunteer Fire Department arrived.
