ROCKY MOUNT TO GET BETTER PLANT ACCESS

To accommodate truck traffic coming from two new mobile-home-plant expansions, the Commonwealth Transportation Board approved $221,000 in industrial access funds last week to widen State Street.

Mod-U-Kraf and Fleetwood Homes are building large expansions in the Franklin County-Rocky Mount Industrial Park, located off State Street.

The road will be widened from 24 to 30 feet beginning at the industrial park's access road and ending at the intersection of State Street and North Main - a length of about half a mile.

The industries are expected to generate more than 900 passenger vehicles and 150 truck trips daily, according to Virginia Department of Transportation projections.

The expansions will create more than 300 new jobs.

The total cost of the road project is $300,000. The difference between the state funds and the actual cost of the project will be picked up by the Rocky Mount Town Council and the Franklin County Board of Supervisors.
