REPORTED EARNINGS

DuPont

DuPont reported first-quarter net income of $959 million, or $1.40 per share, on sales of $10.50 billion, compared with year-earlier $642 million, or 94 cents per share, on sales of $9.19 billion. The Wilmington, Del., chemicals and fibers maker operates a nylon plant in Martinsville.

Hershey Foods

Hershey Foods Corp. reported net income of $60.6 million, or 70 cents per share, on sales of $867.4 million, compared with year-earlier $53.0 million, or 61 cents per share, on sales of $883.9 million. The Hershey, Pa., company operates a chocolate plant at Stuarts Draft and a pasta plant at Winchester.

Hubbell

Hubbell Inc., an Orange, Conn., manufacturer of industrial wiring and controls with a plant in Christiansburg, reported first-quarter net income of $28.4 million, or 85 cents per share, on sales of $278.4 million, compared with year-earlier $24.3 million, or 73 cents per share, on sales of $207 million.

Southland

Southland Corp., Dallas operator of 7-Eleven convenience stores, reported a first-quarter net loss of $962,000, equal to less than a penny per share, on revenues of $1.56 billion, compared with a year-earlier loss of $8.1 million, equal to 2 cents per share, on revenues of $1.53 billion.

Winn-Dixie Stores

Winn-Dixie Stores Inc., Jacksonville, Fla., supermarket chain, reported net earnings of $56.9 million, or 76 cents per share, on sales of $2.78 billion for its third quarter ended April 5, compared with year-earlier $52 million, or 70 cents per share, on sales of $2.65 billion. For nine months, net earnings were $164.5 million, or $2.21 per share, on sales of $8.9 billion, compared with year-earlier $151.8 million, or $2.03 per share, on sales of $8.49 billion.
