ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The Consumer Price Index rose 0.2 percent from February to March and 2.9 percent for the 12 months that ended in March, boosting the index figure to 151.4, using a base of 100 points. That compares with 150.9 in February and 147.2 in March a year ago. It means a collection of goods and services that cost $147.20 in March 1994 had risen to $151.40 by the end of last month.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics said that the figure would have been 453.5 if the government still used 1967 prices for its base.

Starting today, figures that are new each Tuesday to the Roanoke Regional Economic Indicators charts are highlighted with red borders and marked with a check to allow readers to spot those that reflect the most recent changes. New statistics are added weekly as they are made available from various sources.
