DUNCAN, Mintha Flora, 78, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, April 24, 1995, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. She was a member of Bains Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Duncan, one son, Marvin Lee Duncan, and also by two infant children. Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Mary Laxton, Mrs. Dorothy Semones and Mrs. Frances Wade, all of Christiansburg, Mrs. Susie Lytton and Mrs. Martha (Bookie) Lytton, both of Radford, and Mrs. Nancy (Jenny) Stump, Riner; one brother, Early Gallimore, Blacksburg; one sister, Mrs. Alberta Akers, Radford; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 26, 1995, at 2 p.m. in the Bains Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church in Radford, with the Rev. Phillip Martin and Dwigh t Sechrist officiating. Interment will follow in the Pentecostal Conference Cemetery in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Bains Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund. HAIRFIELD, Dorothy Creasy, 85, of Vinton, died Saturday, April 22, 1995. She attended Vinton Baptist Church and was a member of the Vinton Senior Citizens. SHe was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hairfield, and a daughter, Faye Fisher. Surviving are a granddaughter, Nancy Fisher; a grandson and his wife, Tom and Cindy Fisher; two great-grandchildren, Allie and Tori, all of Atlanta. Also several nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Saundra Bower, Raleigh, N.C., and Linda Harman, Roanoke. Graveside funeral services will be conducted in Sherwood Memorial Park, 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 1995 with the Rev. Dr. William L. Ross officiating. HARLOW, Leon M., 65, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 22, 1995. He was retired from the N & S Railway after 40 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn V. HAWKINS, Barbara Abbott, 92, of Salem, died Sunday, April 23, 1995. She was the widow of Marcus D. Hawkins and was a native of New Castle. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Joy H. and Frank D. Conant, Great Falls; two brothers, Roy Abbott and Luther Abbott; three granddaughters, Marcia Trevino, Susan Conant, and Donna Burke; six great-grandchildren. HILL, Kathleen Fisher, (``Kitty""), 74, of Salem, died Sunday, April 23, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Hill Sr. and sons, Paul L. Hill Jr., William Edwin Hill, Thomas Ralph Hill and William Edwin Hill II. She was an active member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Roanoke and was the retired owner and operator of Hill's Service Center, Inc. in Salem. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy H. Harris, Boones Mill, Joyce H. and Jerald G. Fielder, Roanoke, Janice L. and Larry E. Gray, Salem; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel by Rev. Stephen L. Dye with burial in Evergreen Burial Park. IRWIN, Howard W., 72, of Burlington, N.C., died Sunday, April 23, 1995 at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born April 4, 1923 in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was a chemical engineer for Celanese Fibers Company for 40 years, retiring in 1982. He served in the Army during WW II, having served in Los Amamos, New Mexico. He was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church and Church Council, Burlington, N.C.; formerly on the Council at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Pearisburg, Va.; St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland, Md.; Calvary Lutheran Church of Pittsburgh, Pa.; 5 0 year member of the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers; and at time of death was Treasurer on the Board of Twin Lakes Retirement Center. He was a graduate of Penn State University in Chemical Engineering. Survivors include his wife, Naomi Skillington Irwin, Burlington, N.C.; sons, Howard C. Irwin, Ivor, Va., Bruce W. Irwin, Hildesheim, Germany; family of Fred F. Chen, Singapore; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 29, at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Lutheran Church, 421 West Front St., Burlington, N.C. St. CLAIR, Evelyn Louise Whorley, 82, of 1318 Norfolk Avenue, Bedford, died Monday, April, 24, 1995 in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born in Arcadia on November 6, 1912, a daughter of the late Robert Thompson Whorley and Elvira Estelle Bryant Whorley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Thomas St. Clair. She was employed with Hampton Looms of Virginia for 31 years and also with Belding Corticelli for seven years. Mrs. St. Clair was a member of Bedford Presbyterian Church. She is survived by three sons, James M. St. Clair, Steven T. St. Clair, both of Bedford, Michael L. St. Clair of Thaxton; one daughter, Wanda S. Hensley of Bedford; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 1995 in Virginia Memorial Park with the Rev. Ray T. Lyons and Rev. STUART, James A., 73, of 2200 E. Doublegate Dr., Albany, Ga., died Sunday, April 23, 1995, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. A native of Forsyth, Mr. Stuart had lived in Albany for the past 20 years and he was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church and Doublegate Country Club. He was co-founder of American Family Life Assurance Company, now known as AFLAC and retired as Virginia State Sales Coordinator, after a 20 years career. He lived in Roanoke, Va. before moving to Albany. He was also a member and past Exhalted Ruler of Albany Elks Lodge #713, BPOE, and was the All American Leading Knight of the 1961 Albany Elks Ritualistic Team. He was also a veteran of WWII , having served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Allie R. Stuart, Albany, Ga.; two daughters, Judith Visco, Allentown, Penn., Susan Stuart, Jacksonville, Fla.; J. Ronald Stuart, Albany, Ga.; two stepsons, Kirk L. Rouse, Albany, Ga., James Phil Rouse Sr., Bloomington, Ind.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Kimbrell-Stern, with interment in Riverside Cemetery. Dr. Michael Catt and the Rev. Tony Haefs will officiate. WEHREND, Harold August Benjamin, 64, of Roanoke County, died suddenly on Sunday, April 23, 1995, at Lewis Gale Hospital. He was formerly of Owensville, Mo. Mr. Wehrend was a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired employee of Norfolk Southern. He was an active member and Congregational President of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Christina Wehrend, and his sister Dora Greunke. Surviving are his wife, Norma Ballard Wehrend, Roanoke C ounty; son and daughter-in-law, Gregg Allen and Wanda Wehrend, Salem; daughter and son-in-law, Gail Marie and Mark Schumacher, Salem; daughter and fiance, Valeta Christine Wehrend and Jeff Boyd, Roanoke; four grandchildren, Paul Schumacher, Matthew Wehrend, Nathan Schumacher, and Adam Wehrend; four brothers, William, Alfred, Martin, and Oscar Wehrend; three sisters, Olga Greunke, Alma Illig, Flora Tayloe; also a number of nieces and nephews. WILLIAMS, Caroline Hutter, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, April 23, 1995, at her residence. She was the widow of Cranston Williams who died in 1989 and was an U.S. Army Veteran of WWI, secretary t o US Senator W.J. Harris of Georgia and retired General Manager and consultant of the American Newspaper Publishers Association in Reston, Va. Her parents were Ernestine Booker and Christian Sixtus Hutter, deceased of Lynchburg. Born in Lynchburg, Va., on August 3, 1900, she lived in Chattanooga, Tenn., Scarsdale and New York City, N.Y. She has resided in Lynchburg, Va. since 1960 except for nine months in Roanoke. Mrs. Williams attended Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Ga., and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lynchburg, Va., where she was christened, confirmed and married. She taught at New London Academy, New London, Va. after college and was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, Daughters of the American Revolution, First Families of Virginia 1607-1620, and the Jamestown Society. She was an active Junior League member in Chattanooga, Tenn., New York City and Scarsdale, N.Y., as well as Lynchburg, Va. She was preceded in death by a son, Hutter Williams who died in 1975. Survivors are her son, Cranston Williams Jr. and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Johnson Williams of Roanoke; grandchildren, Sally Warner Williams of Chapel Hill, N.C. and Cranston Reade Williams of Arlington. Private graveside services will be conducted at Spring Hill Cemetery 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, by the Rev. Louis C. Fisher III and the Rev. Karen H. Lindsay. Arrangements by W.D.
