The girl, whose name was not released because she is a juvenile, was crossing Grandin Road just south of Brandon Avenue on her way to school, according to Roanoke Sgt. J.R. Ratcliffe.
She walked between two lanes of northbound cars stopped on Grandin at the Brandon intersection, then was struck by a northbound car turning east onto Brandon.
The girl suffered minor injuries and was charged with interfering with the passage of a motor vehicle.
"We don't usually use that charge," Ratcliffe said, "unless the person does not use a crosswalk - and there was one at this intersection."
