SWITCH STARTS FIRE IN FACTORY

A short-circuited oven switch started a fire inside a Bedford rubber factory Friday morning that smoldered for hours inside the building's air ducts.

The Bedford Volunteer Fire Department answered a fire call at Waltex, a subsidiary of Rubatex Inc., about 9:45 a.m. ``We knocked the actual fire down pretty quick, but we had a lot of hidden fires in the duct system,'' said Fire Chief Mike Burnette.

No one was injured, and the damage to the building was not extensive, Burnette said.
