WYTHEVILLE - Science fiction author H.M. Hoover will be speaking to students at Scott Memorial School Tuesday, and parents are invited to hear her, too.
Hoover, whose books include "Away Is a Strange Place to Be," "Only Child" and "Orvis," will speak from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. to fifth-grade students; 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., seventh-grade; and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., sixth-grade.
The students have been reading her books in preparation for her visit.
Hoover lives in Virginia near Washington.
This is the school's second year of reading and meeting an author.
Last year's guest was Blacksburg author Lou Kassem.
Lions Clubs aiding blind
BLACKSBURG - The Lions Club will begin is annual "blind products" sale Monday, May 1, with light bulbs, brooms and mops.
All proceeds will go to the Old Dominion Eye Bank.
The Lions will also accept old eyeglasses for reprocessing.
