BAKER, Lula Hale, 70, of Rich Creek, went to be with the Lord on Friday evening, April 27, 1995. She was born on June 2, 1924 in Kentucky and was the daughter of Hattie Lenier Moody Hale and the late James Bernard Hale. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Lester Baker. She was a member of Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church and AARP. In addition to her mother, she is survived by three sons, Roger Gautier, Charleston, W. Va., Jimmy Gautier, Dublin, Edward Gautier, Rich Creek; three daughters, Elizabeth Albert, Bonnie Robinson, Patricia Lilly, all of Narrows; a brother, William B. Hale, Narrows; a stepbrother, James B. Hale Jr., Ocala, Fla.; three stepsisters, Juanita Moyer, Findlay, Ohio, Ruth Hill, Elizabeth City, N. C., Alma Hall, Ocala, Fla.; seventeen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, May 1, 1995, at the Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church in Narrows, with the Rev. Kim Jones and the Rev. David Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Va. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows.

BOHON, James Edward Sr., 72, of Salem, passed away Friday, April 28, 2995. He is survived by his wife, Ada Lynn Bohon; daughter, Elaine Goodman of Atlanta, Ga.; son, James E. Bohon Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Polly Ferguson of Roanoke; stepson and daughter-in-law, Larry and Carol Saul of Salem; good friends, Bobbie and Lois Saul of Salem; nine grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, May 1, 1995, at Lotz Salem Chapel, with the Rev. Lane Carter officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. BURCHETT, Ralph, 65, of Route 1, Box 79 (Mt. View Heights), Draper, passed away Friday night, April 28, 1995, in the Radford Community Hospital. Born January 24, 1930 in Wythe County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Hubert W. Burchett and Bessie Lineberry Burchett. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was an employee of Virginia Maid Hosiery Mill with over 34 years of service; and was a Baker for the Petro Truck Stop, Ft. Chiswell until his retirement. Surviving are his wife, Eva Whitt Burchett of Draper; sisters, Mrs. Buford (Eulila) Taylor of Ivanhoe, Helen Waller of Pulaski, Mrs. Lewis (Kathleen) Spark of Richmond, Mrs. Randolph (Imogene) King of Ivanhoe, Mrs. Hubert (Inez) Richardson of Draper; brother, Malcolm Burchett of Dublin. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, from the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, Draper Valley, Virginia, with the Rev. Joseph A. Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in the Draper Valley Pentecostal Church Cemetery. Visiting will be anytime after 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon and the family will recieve friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski. CREASEY, Bertha Virginia, 78, of Vinton, passed away Friday, April 28, 1995. She was retired from Kenrose Manufacturing. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond J. and Virginia Creasey, Clifton Forge; a nephew, Michael L. Creasey; and one niece, Kristal Bailey; a very special friend, Louis G. DILLARD, Vivian Craighead, 77, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, April 28, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Dillard. Survivors include one niece, Shirley (Andrew) Wiley, Troutville; two nephews, James E. (Betty) Craighead, Goodview, Edward Saunders, Blue Ridge; three sisters-in-law, Edith L. Craighead, Helen B. Craighead, both of Troutville, and Virginia Alexander, Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers-in-law, Clarence Dillard Sr. and Charlie A. Reynolds,; devoted friends, William and Frances Keen, Sarah Holland and Shirley Beane, all of Roanoke; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. EMICK, Margaret H., 77, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, April 28, 1995, in a local hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Dudley J. Emick Sr. Mrs. Emick was a member and Sunday School Teacher at Bonsack Baptist Church. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Dudley J. Jr. and Martha Emick, Fincastle, Stephen H. and Anne Emick, Marietta, Ga., Timothy V. and Annamary Emick, Salem, Mark Q. and Linda Emick, Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Marybelle E. and William Bownas, Maryville, Tenn.; seven grandsons; six granddaughters; one great-grandson; brother, Thomas B. Hammitt, Albemarle, N.C. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Fincastle Rescue Squad or the Building Fund at Bonsack Baptist Church. HALL, Herbert William, 77, of 511 8th Street, Altavista, died Saturday, April 29, 1995 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Ruby Thurman Hall. Born in Campbell County November 15, 1917, he was a son of the late Jessie and Sara Hatchet Hall. He was a member of Swan Creek Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He retired from The Lane Company in Altavista and Rocky Mount, where he held various management positions, and was a partner in Hall's Auto Mart in Altavista. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Donald R. Hall of Altavista; three daughters, Patricia Caroline Hall of Altavista, Marian Hall Ingram of Boones Mill and Shirely Suffel of Rocky Mount; one brother, Lawrence Hall of Lynch Station; one sister, Hazel Baltimore of Bristol; two granchildren and one great-grandchild. A graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Billy Robertson in Swan Creek Baptist Church Cemetery at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Finch & Finch Funeral Home, Altavista, and other times at the residence.

HARRIS, Elbert, (``Buddy''), 82, of Covina, Calif., formerly of Roanoke, died Wednesday, April 26, 1995. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and also attended Roanoke College. He was a Veteran of WWII. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Harris; daughter, Paula Haywood, both of Covina, Calif.; one brother, F.M. (Jeff) Harris; five sisters, Mabel H. Ratcliffe, Elsie H. Spicer, Lillie H. Wootton, Ellen H. Monroe, Dorothy H. Briggs, all of Roanoke. Funeral services will be at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, Covina, Calif.

HASH, Virginia Franc, of Route 3, Ferrum, departed this life Friday, April 28, 1995, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Elder J.G.L. and Nannie Hash. She is survived by her sisters, Ora H. Thomas, Stuart, Gustava H. Sutphin, Hyattsville, Md., Ruth H. Jones, Ferrum; brother and sisters-in-law, John and Mary Ann Hash, Nashville, Tenn., Anita D. Hash, Ferrum, Georgene H. Hash, Dublin; and many nieces, nephews, and special family members, Alison and Larry Chernick. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Flora Funeral Chapel with Elder Clarence Stone officiating. Interment will follow in the Hash Family Cemetery, at the home. HOGUE, Paul Marshall, 88, of Bedford, died Saturday, April 29, 1995. Arrangements by Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.

HUNT, Florence Minetta P., of Roanoke, died Friday, April 28, 1995, at the age of ninety-four, in the Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Roanoke. She was born in Southampton, England on January 14, 1901. Her parents were Frederick John Maccalsfield Parker III and Annie Minetta Francis Parker. She was a graduate of Lowell (Mass.) High School. She was the widow of Aubrey Leigh Hunt, who retired from the IRS in Roanoke. Mrs. Hunt worked as a clerk and accountant in the Boston area for New England Telephone. She volunteered for the Red Cross all her life and worked for the Roanoke Blood Bank. Mrs. Hunt is survived by one daughter, Lois Hunt Turcotte, her husband, Oliver, and their children, Christopher C. Turcotte, Whittier, Calif., and Andrea E. Scott, Redwood City, Calif. According to Mrs. Hunt's wishes, she will be cremated and depart without ceremony.

MAYO, Willie Childress, 77, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, April 29, 1995 in a local hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Mayo and one son, Archibald Mayo. Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Stewart, Columbus, Ohio, Shirley Brown and Brenda Mayo, both of Roanoke, stepdaughter, Marvell Mayo; six sons, Nathaniel Mayo, Roanoke, James Mayo, Clarence Mayo, both of Washington, D.C., William Mayo, Frank Mayo, both of Roanoke; 27 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 17 stepgrandchildren; one sister, Marie Wood, Roanoke; two brothers, Talmage Childress, Edward Childress, both of Roanoke; three sisters-in-law, Gertrude Childress, Madeline Childress and Elizabeth Griffin; and a host of other relatives and friends. O'HARA, Vera Lisanti, 80, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 29, 1995. She is preceded in death by her husband, John O'Hara. POTTS, Rev. Dr. Alpheus Wilson Sr., 86, of Roanoke, died Friday, April 28, 1995. He retired in 1977 after 44 years as a member of the Virginia United Methodist Conference. During those years, beginning in 1933, he served twelve charges and for six years was Superintendent of the Staunton District. From 1969 to 1976 he was President of the Virginia Conference Historical Society. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Sons of the American Revolution and the Jamestown Society. Surviving is his wife, Josephine Smith Potts; a son and daughter-in-law, A. Wilson Jr. and Carol H. Potts, Roanoke; daughters and sons-in-law, Louise Potts Root and William H. Root, Ellicott City, Md., Christy Potts Bounous and Bart Bounous, Ashville, N.C., Elizabeth Potts Hosmanek and Paul P. RAKES, Charles Jackson, of Patrick County, died September 22, 1911. He was born November 11, 1834. The Fincastle Rifles Camp #1326 will hold a military funeral with flag displays, rifle volley and confeder ate uniforms. He had many descendants including four granddaughters, Maggie Brown, age 95, of Dublin, Lena Amburn, age 94, and Ethel Smith, age 87, Mo lly Edwards, age 93, all of Carroll County. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 21, 2 p.m. in the Cemetery of Southwestern Va. Hospital, Marion. All descendents are invited to the service and the general public is welcome.

SPANGLER, Monica Blankenship, (``Monnie""), 45, of Vinton, died Friday, April 28,1995, in a local hospital. She was a member of Waverly Place Baptist Church and was employed by Bell Atlantic. She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia (``Sis"") Sink Blankenship and a brother, Tommy Blankenship. Surviving are her husband, Ronald E. Spangler; daughters and sons-in-law, Heather S. and Robert E. Cantu, Nichole S. and Charles C. Griffin all of Vinton; granddaughter, Alexandria Elyse Griffin; grandson, Tre' Michael Cantu; father, James L. SPRADLIN, Mary Cornelia, 70, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, April 29, 1995. She was a graduate of Longwood College and retired after teaching for 38 years in the Roanoke City schools. She was an active member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church. Surviving are a brother, Charles S. Spradlin; a sister, Ruth S. Spradlin both of Roanoke; a nephew and wife, Daryl and Mary Spradlin of Mebane, N.C.; a niece and husband, Sharon and Eric Alexis of Roanoke; two great-nieces and one great-nephew. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, May 1, 1995 at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church with Dr. Gregory L. Adkins officiating. TATE, Carlton Irvin, 75, of Portsmouth, formerly of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 27, 1995. He was a Navy Veteran of WW II and a retired Mechanical Inspector from Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Cradock United Methodist Church, Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge #178 A.F. & A.M., and past patron Victory Chapter #16, Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving include his wife, Mildred Carter Tate; daughters, Juanita Tate Peterson, Glasgow, Ky.; son, John Carlton Tate, Portsmouth; sisters, Ruth Tate Young, Roanoke; grandchildren, Jeff Peterson, Newport News, Lori Hodges, Glasgow, Ky., Christopher Tate, Portsmouth; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. WITTEN, Nancy Humphrey, 87, of Roanoke, formerly of Tazewell, Va., died Friday, April 28, 1995 at the home of her daughter, Rebecca (``Tish"") Banghart in Roanoke. She was a member of Bundy's Chapel Baptist Church in Witten Valley. She attended Radford University and taught school in Tazewell County Public Schools for 34 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (``Bill"") Witten. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Floyd Williams; d aughters, Carol Sue Witten and Rebecca (``Tish"") Banghart all of Roanoke; grandsons, Terry Williams and his wife Candie, Todd Williams of Roanoke; step granddaughter, Becky and husband Clay Sturgill of Roanoke; two great grandchildren; sister, Nell Hamphrey; and sister-in-law, Reba Witten both of Tazewell.
