MAN HIT BY TRUCK AND KILLED

A Lexington man was killed early Tuesday when he was hit by a tractor-trailer as he walked along Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County.

Estel Marion Fix, 52, was struck by a northbound truck at the interstate's junction with Interstate 64 just before 2 a.m., according to a state police report. The truck ran off the road, struck a parked tractor-trailer, then Fix, then a pickup truck, the report said.

Fix, who was the owner and operator of Marion's Auto-Truck Repair, died at the scene.

Tuesday night, the driver of the truck, Nelson Sherman, had not been charged. State police said the accident still was being investigated.
