AKERS, James W., (``J.W.''), 50, of Christiansburg, finished his work on this earth on Tuesday, May 2, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Griffith Akers; his daughter and son-in-law, Kristie and Mitch Jearls, Dublin; his daughters, Lee-Ellen Akers and Ashlyn Gray Akers, of the home. He is also survived by his parents, Lawrence and Cora Akers, Christiansburg; his parents-in-law, P.L. and Jackie Griffith, also of Christiansburg; a brother-in-law and his wife, Blake and Karen Griffith; and a dear niece and nephew. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday from the Christiansburg Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 4, 1995, from 2 to 9 p.m. at 290 Patricia Lane. Arrangements are being handled by the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

ALLAWAY, William Hubert Sr., 79, of Lexington, died Tuesday, May 2, 1995. Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.

BARKER, Ernest R., (``Bill""), 75, of Sugar Grove, died Wednesday, May 3, 1995, in Smyth County Community Hospital. He was a member of the American Legion, Francis Marion V.F.W. Post #4667 and was a Veteran having served in World War II. Survivors include one son, Ernest Barker Jr., Dacula, Ga.; one brother, Keith Barker, Sugar Grove; one sister, Pauline Hash, Baltimore, Md.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Barnett's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Price officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Sugar Grove with full military honors to be conducted by Francis Marion V.F.W. Post #4667. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Barnett's Marion Funeral Home.

BOITNOTT, Charles Lewis Sr., 54, of Ferrum, died Wednesday, May 3, 1995, at his home. Born October 3, 1940, he was the son of the late Samuel H. and Lula Chewning Boitnott. Surviving is his wife, Macie Ann Boitnott of the home; five sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Lewis and Melissa Boitnott, Spotsylvania Co., Charles Lewis and Shelia Boitnott Jr ., Sydnorsville, Joshua Andrew Boitnott, of the home, William Glenn and Karen Hicks, Stewartsville, and Michael Anthony Prater, Ferrum; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Angela Hicks and Alma Lee Hicks, both of Topsail Beach, N.C., Sandy P. and Kent Bowman, Boones Mill; 11 grandchildren, Calie and Leigha Boitnott, Spotsylvania, Kristie and Kayla Boitnott, Sydnorsville, Shawn and Billy Hicks, Stewartsville, Michael and Jonathan Farrel, Kali Hicks, and Douglas Reynolds, all of Topsail Beach, N.C., Amy Bowman, Boones Mill; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert L. and Mary L. Boitnott, Goodview; two nephews, Todd Boitnott, Vinton, Jimmy Wooldridge, Salem; two nieces, Kimberly Vencill, Hardy, Amy Burch, Roanoke; several aunts and uncles; his father-in-law, Luther A. Quinn, Ferrum; and his special friend, Sheldon Radford, who was like family. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, 1995, at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lester Wertz officiating. Burial will follow in the Quinn Family Cemetery, Ferry,. BRUMMETT, Junior Lee, 63, of Blacksburg, passed away Monday, May 1, 1995, in the Montgomery Regional Hospital. HARTMAN, Anthony W., (``Doc""), 59, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 1995. He was retired from the City of Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Hartman, a sister, Fannie Hartman and brothers, Joe Hartman and Jim Hartman. He is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Lear and Sam Overfelt, Roanoke, Mandy and Raymond Blankenship, Moneta; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Sadie Hartman, Columbia, S.C., Ira and Joanne Hartman, Troutville; brother-in-law, Clovis Hartman; stepbrothers, Clarence, Ed and Jack Shephard; stepsister, Cleo Ferris; special friends, Debra and Tommy Stump and sons, Bradley and Christopher. HOPKINS, Essie Yeatts, 82, of Stuart, died Tuesday, May 2, 1995, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro, N.C., following an illness of several weeks. A 55 year resident of Stuart, she was born July 4, 1912, at Mayberry. Mrs. Hopkins was the daughter of the late John Henry Yeatts and Edna Reynolds Yeatts and the widow of A.D. Hopkins, a prominent Patrick County businessman. She was a graduate of Radford College and taught many years in Patrick County Schools including Mayberry, Hardin Reynolds and Stuart elementary schools. An active member of Stuart Baptist Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher, Girls Auxiliary counselor, and six years as president of WMU (Women's Missionary Union). She was a past president of J.E.B. Stuart Women's (cq) Club and the Stuart Book Club. She was past worthy matron of Stuart Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma honorary society for teachers. She served as county chairman of the American Cancer Society for several years and held life membership in the Patrick County Historical Society. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may consider Stuart Baptist Church or a favorite charity. She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Hutchens of Stuart; three sons, A.D. Hopkins of Las Vegas, Nev., Edward Hopkins of Lynchburg, John Hopkins of Miami, Fla; eight grandchildren; also sisters, Lora King of Madison, Wis., Vera Stanley of Mayberry, and Eileen Horton of Dublin; and a brother, John Hassell Yeatts of Prattville, Ala. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart and at other times at the Hopkins home. The funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Stuart Baptist Church with burial at Stuart Cemetery.

KEEN, Janie Lanelle, 64, of Lexington, died Tuesday, May 2, 1995, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. She was born on January 29, 1931 in Clifton Forge, a daughter of the late Tommy C. Knick and Zelma (Clark) Knick. Mrs. Keen was a Presbyterian by faith. Survivors include her husband, Junior C. Keen, Lexington; two sons, Nicky Clinton Keen and Richard Timothy Keen, Lexington; two daughters, Mrs. Sharon Annette Keen Vess and Mrs. Rebecca Denise Keen Catlett, Lexington; one brother, Dewey W. Knick, Clifton Forge; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Layton and Mrs. Merl Wilhelm, Clifton Forge; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 11 nieces and nephews. Mrs. Keen was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold W. Knick and Richard Knick. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, May 5, 1995, at the graveside in Stonewall Jacks on Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Everett C. McCulley officiating. McKEE, Steward Elizabeth, 70, of Chilhowie, died Wednesday, May 3, 1995, in the Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion. She was a retired substitute teacher in the Smyth County School System. She was a member of the Deer Valley Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Thomas G. McKee Sr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Glenn and Holly McKee Jr., Passaic, N.J., and Paul E. and Donna McKee, Chilhowie; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Eric Ruud, Verona; one brother and sister-in-law, P. Warren and Jane Anderson Jr., Amelia; one sister-in-law, Patsy Rogers, Palmdale, Calif.; six grandchildren, Jennifer McKee, Sharon Matthew McKee, Kalyn Ruud, Kearsten Ruud, Jeffrey McKee and Sarah Elizabeth McKee. MILTON, Robert Garvin Jr., 62, of Gainesville, Ga., died Wednesday, May 3, 1995, following a short illness. A native of Roanoke, Mr. Milton was a graduate of Virginia Tech. He worked for Double Envelope for 26 years before moving to Gainesville in 1984. Mr. Milton was the president of Web Inserts/Atlanta, a local printing company, until his retirement February 1, 1995. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Ga. Survivors include his wife, Sue Howard Milton, Gainesville, Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Jordan, Roanoke, Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery Loggins, Gainesville, Ga.; mother, Mrs. Elta Milton, Bedford; sister and brother-in-law, Mr . and Mrs. Paul Rotenberry, Roanoke; grandsons, Clinton Jordan, Palmer Loggins, Samuel Jordan and Anderson Loggins; nieces and other family. WELCH, Annie Lovell Ingram, 94, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Roanoke, died Wednesday, May 3, 1995. She was a member of the Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church and a ``Gold Star Mother''. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Ingram and Stanley Welch, her sons; Russell Ingram and Raymond Ingram; daughter, Dorothy Clark. Survivors include her grandchildren, Russell Ingram and wife, Maggie, Johnson City, Tenn., Larry Clark Jr. and wife, Sandy, Bexley, Ohio, Maria Clark, Reynoldsboro, Ohio; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Gus Lovell, Vinton, C. WHITBY, Patricia Ruth, (``Patti""), 50 of Salem, died Wednesday, May 3, 1995, at her home. She was born in Middleton, N.Y., but had been a Salem resident most of her life. She graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1962 and was employed with Norfolk & Southern Railway as an Executive Secretary in the Cost Department since 1967. She also worked at the Leggetts Department Store at Tanglewood and Valley View in their cosmetic department. She was a member of the Roanoke Valley Shag Club and was affectionately known by her many, many friends as ``The Hat Lady"". She was preceded in death by her fa ther, Arnold E. Whitby and a sister, Barbara W. Myers. Survivors include her mother, Izma R. Whitby; a sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Doc Roupe of Salem; a stepson, Chris Jones of Roanoke; nieces and nephews, Tim W. Roupe and J. Scott Roupe, both of Salem, Susan and Tanya Myers of Chicago, Ill. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 6, 1995, at 10 a.m. in the Green Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the John M. Oakey and Son Chapel in Salem.
