HONOR URGED FOR LATE LAW LIBRARIAN

The Roanoke Bar Association has recommended that the law library in the city courthouse be named after Clayne M. Calhoun.

Calhoun, who died last month at 44, had worked as the city's law librarian since 1977 and is credited with improving the library over the years.

"She made it what it is today," said Charles Williams, Bar Association president.

Because the library, which is open to the public, is operated by the city, the bar's recommendation will go to City Council for a final decision.

Before coming to Roanoke, Calhoun worked in the law library of the Department of Interior in Washington, D.C.

Calhoun, who held a master of library science degree, had served as president of the Roanoke Valley Association of Law Libraries and in 1994 was a member of the executive board of the Virginia Association of Law Libraries.
