SWVA Bancshares

SWVA Bancshares Inc., the holding company of Southwest Virginia Savings Bank, said it earned $78,000, or 15 cents a share, for the third quarter of its fiscal year, ended March 31. That was the first full six months of operation as a public company. For the nine months, income fell $115,000, or 29.64 percent, from last year's $388,000 to $273,000, or 52 cents a share, this year. The thrift attributed the decline to an increase in expenses and a decrease in income from the sale of mortgage loans in the secondary market.
