TULTEX ELECTS NEW DIRECTORS

Shareholders of Tultex Corp. in Martinsville have elected new directors at their annual stockholders meeting: CHARLES W. DAVIES JR., LATHAN M. EWERS JR., JOHN M. FRANCK, IRVING M. GROVES JR., H. RICHARD HUNNICUTT JR., BRUCE M. JACOBSON, F. KENNETH IVERSON and RICHARD M. SIMMONS JR.

Retiring from the Tultex board were WILLIAM F. FRANCK, who was a director for 45 years and a former president and chairman of the company; JOHN M. TULLY, a director for 31 years who was once president of the company's former Roanoke Fashion division and treasurer of the company when he retired in 1985; and J. BURNESS FRITH, who was a director for 17 years.

John Franck was elected chairman of the board, Davies was named president and chief executive officer; and Rollins was named executive vice president, general counsel and chief financial officer. Tultex is a manufacturer of activewear apparel products.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

AUDREY M. WHEATON has been named director of the Northwest Child Development Center in Roanoke. She had been the interim director at the center for the last eight months. Wheaton previously was associate director of the YWCA of Roanoke Valley.

At Honeytree Early Learning Centers, KELLY BAER has been promoted to director of the West Salem center. She formerly was an assistant director at Honeytree. DEBORAH RAKESTRAW has been promoted from lead teacher to assistant director at West Salem Honeytree.

HEALTH CARE

TODD A. GERL, a pediatric and sports orthotics specialist with 16 years of experience, has joined Virginia Prosthetics as a certified orthotist. Previously, Gerl practiced at Orthotic Specialties in Cleveland, Ohio, and has worked at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation where he designed and fitted sports orthotics for Cleveland Browns football players. Virginia Prosthetics has offices in Roanoke and Martinsville.

INSURANCE

TERRY HAMMAN has been named midwest regional vice president of Erie Insurance Group. He formerly was a branch office manager in Roanoke. In his new position at the Columbus, Ohio-based office, Hamman will be responsible for Erie's Columbus; Parkersburg, West Va.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Indianapolis, Ind.; and Canton, Ohio, offices. He joined Erie in 1984.

MANUFACTURING

DALE H. POWELL has been named president and chairman of the board of Mod-U-Kraf Homes Inc. in Rocky Mount; EDWIN J. CAMPBELL has been named vice president and corporate secretary; M. JAN OLIVER, treasurer; and JEFFREY L. BOUDREAUX, controller. Other directors are: W. CURTIS CARTER, retired from Masonite Corp., Stuart; J. DILLARD POWELL, Rocky Mount Supply Co., MARY L. FITTS, owner and operator of an apartment complex, Boones Mill; and BOBBIE L. OLIVER, a major stockholder and wife of the late O.Z. Oliver, former co-founder and chairman of the board of Mod-U-Kraf, Rocky Mount.

REAL ESTATE

BILL MODICA has joined Progress-Rush Co. in Roanoke as an associate broker. He has more than 20 years of experience in the residential and commercial real estate business, most recently working at Peery & Flora Real Estate. Modica is president of the Roanoke Commercial Multiple Listing Service and is executive director of the Blue Ridge Environmental Network.

RETAIL

W. DOYLE PARKER has joined Piece Goods Shop as an executive vice president. Parker previously was executive vice president of buying and merchandising for House of Fabrics and has more than 25 years of retail experience. The Winston-Salem, N.C.-based chain has 207 stores in the eastern United States, four of which are in the Roanoke Valley.
