`JOKING' LEADS TO INJURY

A Bedford man was in critical condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Sunday after jumping on the hood of a moving car in Blacksburg.

According to the Blacksburg Police Department, Harry R. Patterson, 22, was ``joking around'' when he jumped on the hood of a car driven by William M. Connor, 22, of Blacksburg. Connor is a student at Virginia Tech.

Connor told police he came to a rolling stop and Patterson jumped on his hood. He then drove about 100 feet before stopping. That was when Patterson fell off the hood and hit the pavement head-first.

The accident occurred about 9 p.m. Saturday in front of 11000 Foxridge Apartments.

Patterson was treated at Montgomery Regional Hospital before being taken to Roanoke Memorial.

No charges have been filed and an investigation is continuing, according to police.
