ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The value of new construction begun last month in the Roanoke Valley topped $20 million, according to permits filed by local building officials. The total was thanks largely to two projects. Roanoke City granted a $ 7 million permit for construction of a Wal-Mart store near Valley View Mall, and Salem gave a $4 million supplemental permit for its new ballpark. Even without those two large projects, the amount of permits would have exceeded the $8 million of a month earlier and a year earlier.
