THIS COULD BE THE ONE

Westlake Corner emerged victorious Monday in the three-year ordeal over what to name the intersection of Virginia 122 and 616 at Smith Mountain Lake.

A committee selected to come up with a name for a two-mile area surrounding the intersection made its decision Monday morning. The committee met two weeks ago and whittled a long list of names down to three - Westlake Corner, Duncan's Corner and Lakewood.

Westlake Corner will now go in front of the Franklin County Board of Supervisors for final action

Westlake Corner was the choice of Roanoke Times & World-News readers who responded to a poll last week prompted by the listing of the final three names.

But two other names won earlier newspaper polls. Lakewood won a poll conducted last year by the Smith Mountain Eagle and Smith Mountain Lake won another Roanoke Times & World-News poll last month.
