I-81, U.S. 220 WORK CLOSES LANES, RAMPS

Motorists planning to use Interstate 81 or U.S. 220, including the Roy L. Webber Highway, should consider alternate routes to avoid construction this week.

Beginning today, the I-81 off-ramp at exit 150 in Botetourt County will be closed for repairs. People headed toward U.S. 220 North should plan to use exits 146 or 156.

The northbound lane of I-81 near Hollins also will be closed for repairs. Construction in both areas should end about noon Thursday.

Construction to widen Webber will close the southbound off-ramp to Wonju Street headed toward Franklin Road. One lane in each direction will remain open, slowing traffic considerably.

Beginning Wednesday, the southbound on-ramp from Franklin to Webber also will be under construction. Both areas will remain closed for 45 days.

The speed limit on Webber has been lowered to 45 mph. Construction to add the additional third lane in each direction will continue until fall.
