DUBLIN MAN'S DEATH WAS BY DROWNING

The Dublin man whose body was pulled from the Little River on Saturday after a Friday evening wreck died from drowning, a medical examiner determined Monday.

Jeffrey Scott Altizer, 28, was found after police broadened their search for the driver of a wrecked truck.

Altizer ran his pickup off the right side of Virginia 605 as he came over a hill. The pickup flipped about a mile south of Virginia 232 near Radford, state police said.

State Trooper Frank Lotts said there was no evidence that alcohol was involved in the accident.

Altizer had pelvis and spine injuries, Dr. William Massello, assistant deputy chief medical examiner for Western Virginia said, but the cause of death was drowning.

Lotts said he wasn't sure why Altizer ended up in the river, but speculated Altizer was confused after the accident.

"After he got out, he was hurt and dazed and wandered into the river," Lotts said.
