ALTICE, John Clarence, 93, of Rocky Mount, passed away Monday, May 8, 1995. Preceded in death by a son, Larry James Altice, Mr. Altice is survived by his wife, Bertha Adams Altice, Rocky Mount; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Opal and Clyde Kingery, Rocky Mount, Pauline and James Howery, Florida, Tenny and Ralph Stewart, South Carolina, Betty Altice, Rocky Mount; six sons and four daughters-in-law, Clarence E. Altice, Eldridge and Elva Altice, Andrew and Christine Altice, Edward and Penny Altice, Frederick Altice, all of Rocky Mount, George and Linda Altice, Boones Mill; two sisters, Annie Altice, Rocky Mount, Edna Ramsey, Bassett. Also surviving are 37 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 1995, at the Arrington-Bussey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curtis English and Rev. Burrell D. Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Wednesday, where the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. and other times at the home of Eddie Altice. BELL, James L., 73, of Youngstown, Ohio, died Monday, May 8, 1995. In addition to his surviving wife and children, he has two sisters, Delores Franklin and Rosalie Paige, both of Christiansburg, Va. BOHRER, Leslie Jeanne, 71, of Roanoke and formerly of Winchester, died Monday, May 8, 1995. She is survived by a brother, Richard W. Bohrer, West Linn, Ore.; a devoted friend, Betsy Albert, Roanoke. CAMPBELL, Harold Haco, 72, and CAMPBELL, Gloria Green, 70, of Salem, died Monday, May 8,1995. They are survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Judy Campbell, Salem; grandsons, Daniel Campbell, Heath Campbell, Ross Campbell, Colt Campbell, all of Salem; Mrs. Campbell's sisters, Mary Reid, Nancy Goodwin, both of Port Huron, Mich. CRITZ, William Lancaster Jr., 64, of Roanoke, died Monday May 8, 1995, at his home. Prior to his recent retirement, he was employed with Yokohama Tire Co. (Mohawk Rubber Co.) for over 25 years. He is survived by a son, William L. DUNCAN, Virgie Lee, (""Jennie""), 74, of Troutville, died Monday, May 8, 1995 at Lewis Gale Hospital, after a courageous struggle with heart disease and diabetes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Duncan, one grandson, Caleb St. Clair, and two sisters, Pauline Shaw and Norma Lee. She is survived by one daughter and her fiance, Kathy St. Clair of Troutville, and Michael Hall of Roanoke; five sisters, Bernice Otey of Roanoke, Thelma Kyle, Dorothy Simmons, June Lee, all of Troutville, Audrey Hawkins of Orlando, Fla.; three brothers, Garland Lee of Roanoke, Emmett C. HALE, Ralph William, 70, of Boones Mill, died Tuesday, May 9, 1995 at his home. Born May 17, 1924, he was the son of the late Georgie Saunders. HALL, Jerry Milton, 50, of Chilhowie, died Tuesday morning, May 9, 1995, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He worked for Waddell Transfer for 29 years, working as a truck driver and shop foreman. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Combs Hall, Chilhowie; two daughters, Mrs. April Lyles, Chilhowie, Joy J. Hall, Chilhowie; four sisters, Brenda Waddell, Atkins, Cathy Hall, Catawba, S.C., Jackie Christian, Chilhowie, Rebecca Hall, Chilhowie; two brothers, Trooper Gary W. HOLLIDAY, Loretta Arthur, 94, of Pulaski, died Monday, May 8, 1995, in Highland Manor Nursing Home. She was a retired school teacher for Montgomery County Schools. MITCHELL, Ethel Simmons, 72, of Natural Bridge, beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Monday, May 8, 1995. Ethel died peacefully at Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Lexington, after a long illness. She was born in Willis, February 25, 1923, the daughter of the late John P. Simmons and Eliza Ellen Simmons, and was a long time member of Natural Bridge Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Boyd Mitchell, Natural Bridge; daughter and son-in-law, Linda R. and Rick Newcomb, Roanoke; three g randchildren, Phillip C. Newcomb, Jared L. Newcomb and Joseph A. SIMMONS, Stephen Ellis, (""Pistol""), 72, of Salem died Tuesday, May 9, 1995. A native of Roanoke County, he was the son of the late Merman Starkey and Bertha Ellen LaPradd Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a heavy equipment operator for 40 years. He was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign War. Survivors include his wife, Eula Francisco Simmons; two daughters, Deborah Lynn Tomlin, Salem and Tina Marie Cantrell, New Castle; five sisters, Mary Edna Connor, Phoenix, Ariz., Dorothy Ellen Vaught, Troutville, Margaret Lucille Holmes, Salisbury, N.C., Frances Barringer, Roanoke, and Nancy Sue Wheeling, Rocky Mount; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews. WALLACE, Thelma Pring, 86, of Front Royal, died Monday, May 8, 1885, in the Rose Nursing Home in Berryville, Va. Mrs. Wallace was born March 31, 1909 in Roanoke, Va., the daughter of the late Tecumseh and Florence Tutwiler Pring. She was predeceased by her husband, Dallas R. Wallace. She was a member of the Marlow Heights Baptist Church. As long as she was able, she worked in the church, sang in the choirs, led the children's choirs and served on many church committees. Mrs. Wallace had retired from many years of service at Shirey's Jewelry Store, Front Royal, and then worked at the Drug Fair when it first opened in Front Royal. She was always willing to help anybody and will be greatly missed. Surviving are one sister, Helen Dowd of San Antonio, Texas; and by a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home on Thursday, May 11, 1995, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Harvey Skinner officiating. Interment will be in the Panorama Memorial Gardens at Waterlick. Active pallbearers are Ray Winn, Mike Bshop, Steven Baldwin, Millard Williams, Warren Watson and Amos Hall.
