BARBARA RUNYON KOLB, James River High School received $2,500 for winning the outstanding math/science/computer-science teacher Tandy prize.

L. Bolling Hagen, Glenvar High School, received a certificate for being nominee for the award.

Tandy Technology Scholars recognizes academic excellence for students and teachers especially in the areas of mathematics, science and computer science.

ROBERT HUMMONS, a second-grader at Fishburn Park Elementary School, placed first in his grade division in the Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl Poster Contest sponsored by the Forest Service and the Blue Ridge District of the National Council of Garden Clubs.

THE FINCASTLE RESOLUTION CHAPTER OF THE SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION has announced the winners of its annual essay contest for students in the seventh and 11th grades. The winners are: Stephanie M. Lane, daughter of Joyce and Thomas Lane, William Fleming High School; Theresa Bernier, daughter of Joseph and Helen Bernier; Jessie Shires, daughter of Patricia Shires; Andrea Dietz, daughter of Charlotte Dietz, both Patrick Henry High School; Amanda Willis, daughter of Deborah and Charles Willis, Breckinridge Middle; Chris Sowers, son of Bill and Vanessa Sowers, Jackson Middle; Sarah Casauay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Santiago Casauay; Chris Newton, son of Richard and Priscila Newton; Nathan Taylor, son of Steve and Joy Taylor; Lee Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Taylor; Katie Young, daughter of Richard L. and Rickie Young, all of James Madison Middle School.

YEN THUY LIEU of Patrick Henry High School and Samuel Manning Jr. of Salem High School, have received scholarships from Delta Kappa Sorority of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Lieu is attending Hollins College and Manning is attending Virginia Western Community College. The Delta Kappa grants are given on the basis of scholastic endeavors and extra-curricular activities.

AMY MARIE WOODS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Woods of Salem, is one of 12 Sweet Briar College students selected for membership in Phi Beta Kappa. Woods is a graduate of Glenvar High School.

BRONWYN ELIZABETH KEMPER Salem has been selected for membership in the Gavel Chapter of Mortar Board at Converse College, Spartanburg, S.C.

Kemper, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James C. Kemper, Salem, is majoring in elementary and early childhood education.

G. ANDY HORNER, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Richard Horner of Roanoke, was named to the dean's list at Virginia Commonwealth University for the fall semester. Horner is a junior majoring in illustration at VCU's College of Art.

LAURIE McGHEE, daughter of Sam and Sara McGhee of Roanoke, was named the Most Outstanding Member of 1995 for Xi Sigma Pi, National Forestry Honor Society.

McGhee, a forestry resource management major at Virginia Tech, is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and is involved in the Forestry Club, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, Society of American Foresters and has co-oped with the Union Camp Corp. and Champion International.

THE ROANOKE VALLEY CAMPUS OF NATIONAL BUSINESS COLLEGE, has announced its honor students for the winter term.

Roanoke students who achieved 4.0 grade point averages were: Addie L. Akers-Taylor, Traci L. Blankenship, Susan S. Cassell, Melissa Cheatham, Pamela T. Cormany, Kathy J. Daniel, Lisa G. Firebaugh, Anna Foster, Lori A. Grady, Donna L. Gravely, Yen Hoai Lieu, Stephanie A. Martin, Lisa Owen, Dana H. Podell, Sandra D. Reinhardt and Virgie C. Underwood.

Those with a 3.5 grade point average or better were: Rhonda O. Janney, Angela F. Kingery, Arno Rhodes Myers III and Elizabeth Ann Perdue, all of Salem.

SHERIDA FEAZELL, daughter of Larry and Elizabeth Feazell of Fincastle, recently won two first-place awards - in Dendrology (tree identification) and ax throw - in the annual Tri-State Woodsmen Competition in Mont Alto. She is a member of the forestry club at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.

KRISTIN D. WESTERMANN, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. D. J. Westermann of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.

JENNIFER ANDERSON, a teacher in the alternative education program, has been selected as Roanoke city schools' nominee for the Sallie Mae First Class Award Program administered by the American Association of School Administrators. She was nominated based on her instructional skills and interaction with students, staff, parents and community members.

EAST TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY has announced the names of Roanoke-area students who graduated in December. They are: Tofer Chagnon, Annette Pakush and Maelyn Woody Wolfrey.
