BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center's newest building has opened, bringing the total space at the multibuilding facility to 225,000 square feet with more than 650 employees.
Research Building VII is a two-story, 40,000-square-foot facility. Its tenants include Interactive Design and Development, Spatial Positioning Systems, PPL Therapeutics and Virginia Tech's Center for Transportation Research. Kollmorgen VMG is scheduled to move in this month.
The building has 7,000 square feet remaining and is connected to the Virginia Tech telecommunications system via fiber optics and Ethernet.
Town expo for retirees
BLACKSBURG - The town is preparing for a "Retire Blacksburg Expo" in June that organizers hope will attract retirees.
A long weekend of tours, seminars, exhibits and social events are planned for the potential retirees, who will arrive from seven states. Organizers are hoping for 40 participants during the June 8-11 event.

ERA Townside gets national honor
BLACKSBURG - ERA Townside Inc. has been named one of the top 100 companies in the national ERA system.
The recognition is the result of production figures for sales volume and transactions during the previous year. Electronic Realty Associates, based in Overland Park, Kan., has more than 2,500 locally owned and operated offices around the globe.
Century 21 office honored
DUBLIN - Century 21 Old Virginia Ltd. was named the 1994 Career Opportunity Office for the Southwest District for is successful recruiting. It is one of 12 offices in the district.
Quality council forms in valley
CHRISTIANSBURG - The New River Quality Council has formed to promote quality principles in the valley.

Federal Mogul 1st to certify
BLACKSBURG - Federal Mogul in Blacksburg is the first engine bearing manufacturer in the country to receive ISO 9002 certification.
The International Standards Organization series 9000 operating guidelines refers to the overall standard. ISO 9002 is a standard for manufacturing.
The Blacksburg facility passed its audit on the first attempt, something few companies achieve.
Per Diem B&B in magazine
BLACKSBURG - Per Diem Bed & Breakfast, located in downtown Blacksburg near the Virginia Tech campus, is featured in the June issue of Blue Ridge Country magazine.
Joanne Anderson, who owns the the inn with her husband, John, is a free-lance writer who wrote the story.
Meadowbrook Inc employee-owned
SHAWSVILLE - Meadowbrook Inc., a group of nursing and adult-assisted living facilities in Montgomery and Floyd counties, has become an entirely employee-owned company.
The 250 employees bought the corporation's stock through an employee stock ownership plan. Meadowbrook has been in operation since 1963.
Real-estate agencies merge
BLACKSBURG - Skelton & Associates Inc. real-estate agency and Raines Real Estate have merged. The firm remains known as Raines Real Estate.
