Inclusion workshop

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Parent Resource Center of Montgomery County is presenting a free workshop entitled "Inclusion in the Schools: What Is It? How Does It Work?"

Montgomery County has received national attention because of its inclusive school system and its approach to the education of students with disabilities. The program is designed to answer any questions parents and citizens may have about inclusion.

The program will be in the vocational wing of Christiansburg High School on Tuesday, May 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information and to register call the Parent Resource Center at 951-5753.

Reality Check

RINER - Reality Check, a rap group with a jazz sound, will perform Friday, May 19, at Auburn High School. The program is sponsored by Straight Street, an outreach program for youth. Reality Check is a local group out of Liberty University. The group has been touring and promoting their latest album "Soulfood."

An open gym night with basketball, volleyball and other recreational sports will also take place. Both events are open to all local youth regardless of what school they attend.

Straight Street will also have a meeting at 7 p.m. for those who are interested in the future of the outreach. They are looking for ideas and suggestions concerning the needs and desires of area youth.

The program starts 6 p.m. and will end at 10 p.m. Food and drinks will be available. A $2 donation at the door is suggested. For more information about the evening, Reality Check call Straight Street at 381-1006.

Fishing rodeo

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chapter Inc. invites young children to its annual fishing rodeo at the Izaak Walton Park. The event has been hosted for 30 years and is for children ages 4 to 12. The fishing is free with no license required. Food and drinks will be served to the children. Parents must accompany children.

The event is Sunday, May 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. The Izaak Walton Park is off of Den Hill Road in Montgomery County.
